2022 Falling Walls Lab Capetown for early-career researchers, academics and entrepreneurs
If you’re a student, early-career researcher or entrepreneur with an idea the world should know about, you’re invited to present your pitch at the Falling Walls Lab Cape Town on November 9, 2022. But you’ll have just three minutes to convince the jury that your research or idea is breaking walls and creating a positive impact on science and society.
Falling Walls Labs Cape Town are events held around the world in which budding innovators have just three minutes to pitch a groundbreaking idea that stands to change the world for the better. Co-hosted by the Falling Walls Lab, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (South Africa) and the University of Cape Town.

- The competition is open to all academic disciplines.
- Students as well as early-career researchers, academics and entrepreneurs are eligible to apply.
Benefits for the 2022 Falling Walls Lab Capetown for early-career researchers, academics and entrepreneurs:
- The winners of these international labs come together in Berlin, Germany on the 9th of November each year – the day that marks the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. There, the lab winners compete against one another.
- The lab winners also have the opportunity to interact with renowned individuals around the world. In 2021, the Falling Walls keynote speech in Berlin was given by Dr Özlem Türeci who together with her team at BioNTech, developed one of the first mRNA-vaccines against COVID-19. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has also been among the Falling Walls keynote speakers.

First prize is a trip to Berlin to participate in international Falling Walls Lab event, plus R10 000.
Second prize is R8 000
Third prize is R6 000.
